Donations so received help support the programs and services in the areas of Health, Education, Sports, Art, Culture and Economic Development. A contribution to WBFT is tax-exempt under section 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961, in the hands of donors subject to the limits prescribed therein. Annual operating expenses are minimal, funded primarily by Board members and other community member contributions.
Dream of accomplishing goal and setting benchmark for self is linked to skill set of the student. Right education and coaching is very important to develop the required skill set. The cost of education is increasing at alarming pace within India and abroad. But, the weak economic condition is considered as the constraint for many students from the community from achieving their dream.
In the above milieu, the Trust, considering the weak economic condition, because of which a large number of Bunt children remain un-educated or fail to have higher education, started a novel scheme of extending Interest Free Education loan in the year 1997 to needy bunt children. It was the belief of the Trust that once empowered; these students make our community proud. Since then, the scheme has been receiving enthusiastic response from students from the community. This has enabled students to pursue higher studies in streams such as Engineering, Medicine, Para-medical, Law and Pharmacy, A large number of such students have pursued further higher education from premier institutes in India and abroad. The most heartening thing is that almost half of the beneficiaries are girls. The Interest free Loan scheme of the Trust, it is believed, unleashes the potential of the youth of our community to grow into leaders in their respective fields.

The Trust’s ‘Health for Needy’ motto and its healthcare model provides continuum of care to the weaker sections of our society through a Universal Health Insurance Policy under strategic partnership with K S Hegde Charitable Hospital, Derlakatte and also through direct help to the needy.
Sports bring cultures together and bridges gaps across generations. These activities have been a great motivator to enhance the spirit of learning and leadership, especially amongst our young children. Trust, therefore, recognised it as an essential element of learning through physical activities and games and decided to help support the sport by recognizing the achievements of our boys and girls at different levels and help them financially to some extent.
Preserving Art & Culture
The Trust is playing its role to protect and promote our priceless heritage to not only sustain but also make art and culture relevant to the younger generation. Ours is a land of diverse cultures and it is our endeavor to ensure that the youth appreciates and connects with its rich heritage and arts. In this direction, the Trust brought out a Book-both in Kannada and English-Bunts in History and culture. The Book, it is believed, will help understand the rich heritage that our forefathers have bequeathed to the posterity to follow.
Further, with an avowed objective to promote and foster community connection with the Traditional Folk art of Coastal Districts of Karnataka viz. Yakshagana, the Trust has been identifying and honoring eminent Yakshagana Artists every year. This has helped to stay connected with this great Folk Art.
Honoring eminent Bunt personality
The Trust believed that honoring a community champion/personality creates an example for the rest of the community to follow. It may inspire others to emulate and even become community champions themselves. As such, it has been the practice to honor every year one such community personality who has made indelible impression in the community.
